**Omega−3 fatty acids**, also called **Omega−3 oils**, **ω−3 fatty acids** or **_n_−3 fatty acids**,[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega-3_fatty_acid#cite_note-NIH-1) are [polyunsaturated fatty acids](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyunsaturated_fatty_acid) (PUFAs) characterized by the presence of a double bond, three atoms away from the terminal methyl group in their chemical structure.
