But it did get the BGAN Lawyer’s attention. He said some of the biggest trade-offs comes down to “decentralization and anonymity vs. certainty and avenues for redress in some situations.” And makes the novel argument that BGANs are one of the only few DAOs _ready_ to be a network state and discusses what that might look like for the Bastard DAO. He was originally drawn in during the mania of the ICO boom. But quickly lost the desire to participate during the bear market of 2018. “A hell of an introduction to market cycles,” he says. > I’m not a trader, and there wasn’t much to keep me coming back during that time. This bear market, there are more reasons to stay. For me, BGANs and the BGAN community, getting to be a part of that…that’s different. Obviously I can’t predict the future, but this collection, project, community, feels like something special still in its early stages. Though we’ve been through a lot already. If you look at the history, there's some pretty amazing lore there. Things have come a long way. In terms of lore, Rooster was one of the original nine multisig signers and played an important role in the formation of the DAO. He stepped up and added his name to the ballot even though he wasn’t very confident in securing the role. But fast-forwarding more than a year later, Rooster is one of the most prominent members of our community. The vibe he brings to the chat is uniquely his own. And if you’re lucky he may share some BGAN history, or funky lore. > I wasn't convinced that I'd necessarily be good at the position, but I care a lot about the project and felt a kind of obligation to at least try. I didn't vote for myself, but got elected anyway. I ended up being right about not being very good at it, and it was kind of a shock, but not really, to be voted off as a signer. I was disappointed in myself and a little embarrassed. I decided then that I wanted to do better and show up more, try to make a positive impact in other ways. When I think about that, it feels surreal to go from being booted as a multisig signer, to being nominated and voted as BOTM. > > I think individual efforts matter, and the collective effort matters. People still showing up, even just to “gm,” are showing that they care, and want to be part of whatever this is going to end up being. There is still great discussion that goes on in the discord, and a lot of appreciation I see for this deep art collection. Sometimes that means things can get pretty heated or intense, but it's never about the floor price. People just care a lot about bgans. I'm glad I'm here for it. Rooster is pretty sure BGANs were the second NFT collection he bought after reading [_The Beautiful Bastards_](https://www.justinpaterno.com/the-beautiful-bastards/) by Justin Paterno. > This was maybe a week and a half after the mint had started. I was intrigued, went to the official website Berk had made, immediately loved the vibe and aesthetic of that, and it was just down the BGAN rabbit hole from there. Yeah, let’s go with that. It’s probably true. When asked about the future direction of the collection Rooster said: > I'd like to see BGANs make it into real world art galleries. I think coming up with the content for high quality infographics that explain what BGANs are, how they were made, why they are significant etc. makes sense as an early step in that direction. I’m not sure what being exhibited in galleries would look like exactly. It seems like a big goal, but maybe it would be good to aim for something big like that. BGANs haven’t yet been about “utility,” which often enough seems to be more about the excitement for what might be than anything else. It does seem to have a positive impact on other projects’ community engagement and perceived value though. “Hey, we’re here, in this together and we’re excited about what might be coming.” Well, how about a real chance to be in galleries or museums? That seems pretty exciting. I do want to mention NFTPerp though as being something that might soon be adding some impactful utility to the collection, maybe in a big way. I’m excited to see how that goes. Is there anything you’d like to share with the community or promote? > Yeah, BGANs are high-end art for degenerates.
