# My Story of Buying a House with Gold

When people get married in Turkey, they give you money or gold. At the end of 2020, when I got married, I had collected $12,000 worth of gold at my wedding. Once the opportunity arose, some time passed, and when my wife told me that a thief had broken into our neighbor's house and stolen some money, I told her that by investing in Turkish Airlines, we wouldn't have such problems. After two months of lengthy persuasion, she finally agreed. (His consent was also necessary because the stock market is risky.) Anyway, we added a little more money and bought $15,000 worth of Turkish Airlines shares. We owned 9,500 shares with the THY code. Days began to pass, and the amount in our bank account was increasing every day. My target was 100 lira (cost: 15 lira), but at that time, there was an incredible inflation surge in Turkey, and looking at prices abroad made me think this stock was cheap. At that point, Turkish Airlines was hovering around 150 lira. At this point, a new wave of the Russia-Ukraine war had begun. After waiting a little longer, around October 2023, we sold all our shares for $134,000. I explained to my wife that it would be a good idea to buy gold, as the tensions of war would benefit the gold price. The classic Turkish woman gene kicked in—she said, “Let's do it right away” as soon as she heard the word “gold.” And so, our new journey began in October 2023 with 2,206 grams of gold. By the end of this journey, we had concluded it with 266k USD. We bought a new house and a car. Now I'm in crypto, and we've embarked on a new adventure with 30k USD worth of Ethereum and 10k USD worth of Chainlink.
