**dETH Gateway: Multichain ETH**

At its core, the dETH Gateway protocol makes it possible for dETH, minted via Stakehouse, to seamlessly exist and function in other EVM ecosystems (like Optimism, Polygon, Arbitrum, etc). dETH represents ETH staked on the Consensus Layer via Stakehouse at a constant 1:1 ratio. The ability to self-bridge dETH empowers users and enhances Ethereum’s interoperability, streamlining the path for an array of use cases.

State extension, balance updates, and state unwinding are some of the key operations enabled by the dETH Gateway protocol. With Gateway, users can lock dETH on Ethereum Mainnet and mint it on other EVM chains via unique optimistic UTXO style contracts. This ensures a clear path back to the underlying staked ETH on the Consensus layer earning rewards. If dETH balances increase due to validator rewards, the dETH Gateway forwards the earned dETH to the proper EVM chain(s) ensuring a constant 1:1 ratio.
