some fight resistance to what guns symbolize, rooted in revolutionary war ideals there is fear that if u give an inch (e.g., universal background checks) leads to a mile (full bans) THE UNITED STATES HAS 400M+ GUNS AND 50K+ GUN DEATHS/YEAR (HOMICIDES, SUICIDES, ACCIDENTS). compromises that exist safe storage laws mental health funding licensing systems WHY DO THESE MEASURES FAIL? Polarization and lobbying (NRA/gun-control groups profit from fear). smart guns could shift debate towards safety over bans to fight or not? we can be better probably i mean 50k yearly deaths is a lot of affected families
