比起夫妻矛盾、亲子矛盾更糟糕的情况则是家庭关系的三角化，这在临床心理中经常出现，不少精神科医生和心理咨询师深有体会。 当一对夫妻的矛盾到达白热化的状态时，其中一方（常常是母亲）会把孩子拉进矛盾中，试图以此平衡夫妻之间的冲突。这种现象在心理学上被称为三角化。
