Barcarena was a bucolic valley with a river, but today anyone looking from the door of this Rastilho sees a church on one side but also a massive building with an oblique facade, like one of those futuristic apartment hotels in Albufeira built in the 80s. A crowd lives there and lives , on the ground floor, the [Muchacho restaurant](https://mirror.xyz/madeinpt.eth/6nBpS8ThL6m8UxYwQuQRrrFi1-B0vc6zNLHpK_WhRo4), which advertises “transmontano flavors” on the front page.

For now we are interested in a small rustic house that survived the prevailing schizophrenia and is a poorly kept secret among a small community of journalists and residents. The menu works a lot with a grill, and at lunch there is something cooked every day (feijoada, broad beans, beef hand, grouper rice, Nazaré-style squid...) and a famous stew on Thursdays.

All of this is well cooked, but you can't miss the simpler dishes, such as the veal entrecôte, or the lamb and veal chops, or even the black pork feathers, which here really look like feathers and not steaks cut in ham.

The emphasis comes from the meat being above average, but above all from the fries that accompany it, among the best you can eat in Greater Lisbon, very thin sticks cut by hand, crispy and dripping with oil.

The suggestion is that you also order the house mixed salad, which includes ripe and fragrant tomatoes; and wash down the meal with a wine from the menu, short but with good taste and served at the correct temperatures.

To finish, we recommend the usual classics (farófias are mandatory) and a classic from the 90s (or is it the 80s?), the irresistible house sweet with layers of condensed milk, cream and Maria biscuits.
