Bitcoin (BTC) was invented in 2008 by an unknown person or group of people using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. It was released as open-source software in 2009, becoming the first decentralized cryptocurrency. Bitcoin's price has seen dramatic fluctuations, reaching an all-time high of nearly $65,000 in April 2021, but experiencing significant volatility throughout its history.
