Maintaining a public creative journal is a critical part of the philosophy that I outline to any artist that will listen. For musicians, I always say, making and releasing music should be a daily practice. I encourage them to think about their creative process as a practice. A way for them to generate and share ideas and create the opportunity for serendipity.

The “journal” doesn’t need to exist publicly, but should exist somewhere. Ideally, it’s shared within a trusted circle of friends, fans, or collaborators, to enable feedback and so the artist can both feel the sense of release and get in the routine of releasing.

Releasing unfinished ideas, putting them “into the market” to see what happens is a scary thought, but a critical part of the practice.

Mirror is where I will do the same. Release unfinished ideas. Get some feedback.
