A couple of weeks ago I first [tweeted](https://twitter.com/albertwenger/status/1076541725085220865) about what gives people reasons for optimism and then [wrote a post](https://continuations.com/post/181599385320/staying-optimistic-happy-new-year). Both of these were preparations for giving the opening keynote for the 2019 [DLD conference](https://dld-conference.com/). I will eventually put the slides online but in the meantime, here is the video from the talk
