# My Future 🔮

For a long time I’ve wondered about changing career. If someone asked me what I’d do at university if I had my time again, and I’ll always say computer science. 👨‍💻 I did the very traditional, sausage factory, education life. It’s worked well for me, I have a great job and had an interesting career. But was it what I _loved_? Sometimes. Do I want to _change_? 😬

Change is harder, I have kids, financial commitments, plans for the future etc., so how about I do what I love outside of work and then see about making it work later…

So what am I going to do? Well being on mirror.xyz is probably a giveaway, and that’s something to do with web3/blockchain/crypto etc. I’m not quite sure what yet. I’ve been enjoying [Dark Forest](https://zkga.me/) game, although only via my own lobby, as I didn’t get a whitelist key. This game has got me excited for making plugins and generally improving my understanding how it works. I used to love Eve Online, and forever trying to optimise my production systems, or bet on the next big change and the impact to the market, and of course, the players and fun we all had working together. So I’m hoping to get more involved in the next round of Dark Forest.

I previously got excited about [Aavegotchi](https://aavegotchi.com), but up until recently with the gotchiverse, there wasn’t much you could actually do. I’m confident it’ll turn into a fun game in the end though. I made a little streamlit app, pulling from the graph and plotting market prices and cost efficiencies of gotchis and other things but it wasn’t super exciting, it was also clear python wasn’t really the right language to use for this. Not that it didn’t or couldn’t work, but I’d rather make some one page JAMstack apps instead…if nothing more than to save on hosting costs. 😅

So to do something useful, I need to level up my programming skills…it seems to be javascript or typescript and maybe some solidity. But \*script first. I’ve used python for various small things over the past 10 years, but barely touched JavaScript. Last October I started learning but did about 2 hours then got distracted with something else. So that’ll be my first line of attack. 🍀📚🧠🧑‍🎓💻

I hope that this new blog will keep me accountable. 🪵
