In this article, I’ll tell you how I made my first $100 in three months (part-time) from writing shorts. I would also like to mention that my pattern of publishing has changed a lot but if there is someone who is starting out or isn’t able to earn money from writing then I’ll be giving you some simple steps.

I am writing this keeping finance in mind. If you want to try out writing and making a few bucks then happily go through the steps. If you are in this for the long term then maybe this is not for you but I’ll be revealing some tricks I have been using currently, in future articles. Make sure you follow me for that.

Before we start, I hope you know the software you should be using. If you wanna make quick bucks then enroll your shorts into KDP select. I hope you know that in KDP select, your ebook is tied up to KDP for 90 days and cannot be released anywhere. But you’ll be getting paid whenever someone reads your book. For more detail please visit their official website.

If you have read this far, I hope you are finding it useful. Do check my book [Author On Vacation](https://hazelparadise.gumroad.com/l/sldkw) (pdf format) if you are more into the writing business. Thanks!

I need to tell you this before we go further -

1. Grammarly (I advise for premium but free will do)

2. Photoshop (If you do not know designing then use Canva free version. Paid has really beautiful designs).

3. Kindle Create software (download it from Amazon KDP official website or you can also use Calibre. Both are free. watch Youtube videos before using).

4. AMZ Suggestion expander (again watch the video on youtube. It gives you keywords for your ebooks)

5. A Depositphotos subscription (If using Canva, you can skip this but I’ll suggest using it. Please note that if you are using any model image then do not use the face. Cut it. The Face shouldn’t appear on the cover).

6. [Beehiiv](https://www.beehiiv.com/?via=princee) — A Newsletter service to the store email addresses of your audience for future releases.

Now to the most important point — Genre.

What genre would you write in? My future article would be on this in detail because I failed as I made mistake in this part but for now, I suggest writing what you like or at least what you know.

1. Using google docs, write a book up to 5k. Some also write around 3k but I won’t be suggesting it. Let it be at least 5k. Because those old days of writing and publishing too short are gone.

2. Write in series (No cliffhanger. Later you can experiment but for now, no cliffhanger, and try to be consistent in your series. I mean if you are writing friends-to-lovers then you maintain that in the next book as well). No one wants to be surprised by a new author.

3. Add hot scenes at the end. Not at the start. Do not let the steam go away. I won’t go into detail because I know you all are good at it. If not then, welcome to my team.

4. Keep your audience in mind. When writing romance or steamy romance, female readers often imagine themselves as the female protagonist. So, make sure that she is nice and lovable.

5. Do editing. Never ever publish without editing. Do at least two rounds. If you get a return from the customer then KDP is going to assign a red flag to your account. Make sure you edit it well. Doesn’t matter the story is simple but editing is a must.

6. Add your newsletter link at the end. You don’t want to let go of your readers who enjoyed your ebooks.

7. Try to prelaunch so that you can have some reviews beforehand.

8. Repeat.
