They gain this mantle of authority and legitimacy from the hard sciences. 4). you build a system and hand it over to your enemies to run for the next decade. 5). trading the mean for the variants. 6). it’s making you into an unclear thinker, it’s making you into a model thinker, if all of your beliefs line up into one political party, you are not a clear thinker. if all of your beliefs are the same as your neighbors and your friends, you are not a clear thinker, your belief is socialized. they are taken from other people. 7). politics will destroy your ability to think. 8). we are over-exposed to everything, so the way to survive in modern society is to be aesthetic. it is to retreat from society. 9). meditation: all of man’s problems arise because he cannot sit by himself in a room for 30mins alone. it is the art of doing nothing. 10). People are not going to give up economic growth, they are gonna have to get rich first. 11). we should turn Amazon into an incredible tourist park and put your money where your mouth is. Start doing eco-tourism, and Amazon starts paying for it. And then maybe take the future rights for all the pharmaceuticals that are going to come out of all the credible plants there and start selling those off, so that maybe give the pharmaceutical companies an incentive to preserve the biodiversity of the amazon. 12). it’s much more important to know the basics really well than to know the advanced ones. 13). When you’re memorizing, it’s an indication that you don’t understand. You should be able to rederive anything on the spot. 14). a grip of the trilemma. 15). if there was a single answer, we would not be free, we would be trapped, because then we would all have to live to that answer. Then we would be bog-like robots, each one competing with the other to fulfill that single meaning more than the others. 16). the act of pursuing them is actually really useful because then it gives you a certain instrinsic understanding in your life that brings a level of peace. 17). it’s just you have to go through that, you have to buy your stupid car to realize that it does not attract attractive girls. it actually just attracts other dudes who are like, “hey, I like that car, man,” 18). the peace the smart people seek is not a peace of mind, it is a peace from mind. 19). if you understand things, if you see things properly, you will naturally slowly develop peace from mind. 20). ted tevis saids that there are two great addictions, heroins and a monthly salary. 21). Confucius had a great saying that, everyman has 2 lives, and the 2nd starts when they realize he has just one. 22). would I still be interested in learning this thing if I couldn’t ever tell anybody about it? 23). Art is creativity, it’s anything that’s done for its own sake. 24). I invest because I like the people, I like hanging out with them, I learn from them anything the product is really cool.
