The way people consume music has not evolved since the rise of streaming.

This has created a fundamental shift in the industry. It directly impacted the revenues generated by the music industry. Before streaming, you had to buy an album to listen to music (beside radio & TV), **forcing you to own-to-listen.**

_Today, you can stream any artist, from anywhere in the world, with your phone._

**Streaming is incredible from a consumer standpoint, but unfortunately a disaster for 99% of artists.**

The primary function of a physical album has been replaced by the way our world has evolved toward digitalization. _Digitalization has killed some businesses but helped improve many others._

Music industry revenues were negatively impacted by digitization, as revenues slowly dropped from $23,5B in 2001 to an all-time low of $14B in 2014. In comparison, others art forms like cinema & video games have significantly increased their revenues.

**Today, 65% of the industry revenues are generated by streaming only.**

An engaged music listener buys physical albums, merch, and concert tickets to support their favorite artist.

By allowing music consumers to discover & stream any artist so easily, streaming is responsible for a decrease in the number of engaged music listeners (fans). People tend to be passive music listeners with free plans or streaming subscriptions only.
