A **flower**, also known as a **bloom** or **blossom**, is the reproductive structure found in [flowering plants](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flowering_plant) (plants of the division [Angiospermae](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angiospermae)). Flowers consist of a combination of vegetative organs – [sepals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sepals) that enclose and protect the developing flower, petals that attract pollinators, and reproductive organs that produce [gametophytes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gametophyte), which in flowering plants produce [gametes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gametes). The male gametophytes, which produce sperm, are enclosed within pollen grains produced in the [anthers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamen). The female gametophytes are contained within the [ovules](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gynoecium#The_ovule) produced in the [carpels](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gynoecium#Carpels).
