We pour out our efforts to shape a tremendous life in which the ultimate goal is to be happy 
Especially the ones in lower classes and middle class people who want to live their life without worrying about spending expenses on the things they like to have in the future so as per that their mind comes to an conclusion that they should work hard so as to live a life like this not so dreamy yet achievable! 
There is a culture in Tamil Nadu especially in Kanyakumari where in marriages the brides family provide gold jewellery to the bride....and it's really in a very huge amount! This culture is like a pride for them ...if the family provides less gold the society starts criticizing them and due to this the family work for their entire life to make money and save gold little by little for their daughter! I myself belong to one of the citizen from this place and find it absolutely useless!  
Life is not about materialistic things but about peace , prosperity and happiness 
Sometimes I wonder how can people be this foolish ? If I am getting married and I want something (maybe jewellery) - then it's my responsibility to get to for me ....i have the ability to work for myself and to get what I want ! Why do my parents have to sacrifice their life and work so hard just to give me some gold so that I would wear all of that after marriage in a function and show people how much my parents have given me just to show that my worth is in this damn gold?? Speechless! 
I wish to have a life where there is peace and happiness.. ofcourse there will be hardships and Miseries through which I learn ,endure and live! 
Ofc materialistic things makes us happy but it's just temporary...why should I waste my life by saving up something which is temporary and ignoring Bleautitude 
Jesus himself says “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal" in Mathew 6:19 ......I really hope people should sit and introspect on what they actually want and what they are doing ...
