INT. REGGIE'S ROOM -- DAY

A purple haze lifts from a room of clutter: stuffed toy animals, pencils, pens, and sketch books. Amidst the clutter, REGGIE, a sad, skinny and spectacled 9 year old COVID bound girl, sits in shadows, slumped in front of a desk and a computer screen.

The computer monitor SCREEN, a gloomy oblisque of mind control, pulses maddening text messages in front of her.

ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN The world is at the end... The virus is not real... wash your hands... the virus is real. It's a hoax... buy REMAX.

The Screen shifts between looking like an inanimate hardware box and a maniac mouth with no teeth.

ON REGGIE She clicks the mouse and reveals another screen.

We see ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN The live video screen is of a nervous ostrich-like lady SCIENCE TEACHER wearing a scarf around her mouth.

She CHIRPS and MUMBLES a kitchen chemistry video lesson. How to create gas.

                                                       TEACHER

Now people, every kitchen should have a plastic bottle, baking soda and vinegar in it. The teacher grins and jousts a plastic liter soda BOTTLE at the screen.

The teacher's eyes blink and BULGE into the screen

                                                       TEACHER

Now to the fun part the making and mixing of chemistry!

The wrought teacher stuffs ingredients into the soda bottle. The teacher drops and drips GLOBS of ingredients all over herself and the counter.

The teacher stretches a LATEX COVID GLOVE over the soda bottle mouth.

The teacher grins madly at the screen, and SHAKES the bottle.

The teacher LAUGHS insanely as the glove balloon INFLATES and fills the screen. The glove balloon is ready to burst and then...

ON REGGIE Reggie's carpal tunneled bandaged WRIST CLICKS out of the video lesson window and scrolls through more news blasting headlines:

ON COMPUTER SCREEN
Make your own n95 masks... How to make your own PPEs... Do you have REMAX?

Reggie glumly looks at her own COVID MASK, a crude hand stitched animal cracker print.

Near the mask is an almost empty BOX of orange latex gloves.

CRUNCHIE Reggie's giant, fluffy, cranky cat jumps onto the computer desk spilling clutter onto the floor.

Crunchie sprawls across the desktop with her hind legs spread out like a bear skin rug. Next to Reggie, Crunchie rudely THWACKS the computer MOUSE.

                                                   REGGIE
                                                    Stop.

Crunchie Thwacks again.

The computer mouse grows ears, whiskers and eyes.

The ANIMATE MOUSE glares back at Crunchie. Crunchie flattens her ears and HISSES and Thwacks the mouse again. The mouse sticks its tongue out.

MOUSE Bleeh!

REGGIE Stop it!

Crunchie Thwacks the mouse a third time, as a charm. The mouse falls to the floor dead, with Xs for eyes and becomes a piece of hardware again. Reggie takes in the drama and blinks boredom.

Crunchie sits up on the desk and PRANCES and PURRS knocking her barrel body against Reggie's bandaged wrist.

REGGIE Ow.

Crunchie continues to bruise against Reggie's wrist.

REGGIE OWW!

Reggie SIGHS and gets up from the computer. Reggie stiffly remembers and turns and grabs her COVID mask and gloves. Crunchie plops to the floor bringing more clutter with her to the floor.

Crunchie is determined to cheer up droopy Reggie, Crunchie follows Reggie and gets under Reggie's feet, tripping her repeatedly. Reggie ignores the cat, straps on her COVID Mask and gloves and leaves her room with Crunchie underfoot.

Covid masks are pulled off one by one by the joyous birds, bees, butterflies, with Lili swinging her paws like a band leader. Reggie and Crunchie look at each other. Should they dare take their own masks off too? REGGIE What do you think? Crunchie shrugs, I don't know. Reggie pulls out her latex gloves. She goes to the door.
