# Introducing Async Labs

**The promise of web3**

We founded Async Labs with the fundamental belief that better incentive alignment leads to greater innovation and a more equitable society. In other words, the promise of web3 is _‘greater opportunity_’ for more people in this world.

Blockchains have unlocked a new model of resource coordination between parties. Doing so, they will enable communities to be true stakeholders of a project. This is a radical and exciting view of the world that we wish to make real.

**Technology Maturation**

Blockchains such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana provide distributed fault tolerant state-machines. Blockchains are a radical new approach to computing platforms: _being able to make trust guarantees in an open and adversarial environment_.

In that light, we see Blockchains as a security technology with certain tradeoffs. Today, we give up privacy, cost, and compute efficiency for the benefits of secure and permissionless state-machine. We believe much of this tradeoff will be mitigated over time by research and engineering advancements such as risk-delegation through L2 chains, sharding, and cryptographic proofs. Scalability of the technology will usher in the new web3 economy - _a marketplace of stateful protocols enabling new digital commerce_.

This vision of web3 dapps is also competing with the user-experience of web2 apps. In order to scale and onboard the population, web3 developers will have to solve for user privacy, personalization and discovery, fraud protection, targeted marketing, pricing models, and much  more.

Today’s blockchain architectures provide the base layer of trust in a decentralized environment. In order to build great Dapps that improve upon centralized apps, we still have to figure out the technology to cheaply scale the platform, make security and safety guarantees to end users, and provide infrastructure to build low-latency data-driven experiences.

**Time to Build**

It's a great time to build! Async Labs aims to solve some of these foundational problems to unlock the next-level GDP growth of the internet. 

Our wealth of engineering and tech talent has given us a great start on the effort, but we’re still in the early innings. Our founding team has worked on web2’s largest engineering efforts - Search Engines, Social Media Discovery, Recommendations Engine, and Autonomous Driving AI. We’re builders and members of the community who are excited by the potential of blockchain technology to have even greater impact on society.
