The Sam Altman-backed Worldcoin project has officially rebranded to World Network, or simply World. Alongside this change, its Ethereum-secured Layer 2 blockchain, World Chain, has launched its mainnet.

World Network aims to redefine its mission, highlighting its commitment to human verification through World ID—a digital identity solution that uses biometric data like iris scans. The project boasts over 10 million signups across 160 countries.

The launch is backed by notable partners including Optimism, Alchemy, Uniswap, and more. World Network emphasizes a “humans-only” community, aiming to differentiate real users from AI actors as the internet evolves. Currently, the cryptocurrency WLD is valued at $2.13, with a market cap of $1.1 billion.
