Welcome to Autismhood Media: Real Talk from the Ground Level

Daily routines, adult special needs parenting, and hard-earned wisdom from our porch to yours

If you are new around here, pull up a chair. You just found Autismhood Media, and I am glad you made it.

My name is Jay. I am a Black father living in an apartment complex, a recovered alcoholic with roots back in Cleveland, and the full-time caregiver to my adult son, Sheamus. He is on the autism spectrum, and our days revolve around making sure he is safe, fed, calm, and respected.

I used to be out in the streets, drinking heavy and staying at the YMCA shelter when things fell apart. Getting sober gave me my life back, but raising Sheamus gave that life its true purpose. When you take care of an adult child with special needs, you do not have time for fluff, fake posturing, or unnecessary drama. You learn what matters fast.

What you will find here

A lot of what gets written about autism comes from textbooks, clinics, or people trying to make everything sound soft and tidy. That is not what we do on this porch.

Autismhood Media is an honest look at the ground level:

• Daily life and routines: Morning walks, meal prep, and keeping the apartment calm so Sheamus stays grounded.

• Adult special needs parenting: What happens after school ends, the cliff of adult services, and navigating the system on your own.

• Hard-earned life lessons: Sobriety, patience, staying out of silly arguments, and protecting your peace as you get older.

• Honest wins and laughs: Because if you cannot laugh at the daily quirks and celebrate the small steps forward, you will lose your mind.

What to expect

I drop fresh posts once or twice a week. Nothing overly long or academic, just direct dispatches from our kitchen table and our living room. Real stories about what worked, what went sideways, and how we handle the day.

How you can back the work

Autismhood Media is completely independent. It is just me at the keyboard and Sheamus right beside me. We do not have corporate backers or grant money. We rely on community support from folks who see value in our story and want to help us keep going.

If you want to support our household and help fund Sheamus's daily needs, activities, and groceries, you can send a tip directly via CashApp to $Jasonmac73. Every single dollar goes right back into our home and keeps our pantry stocked.

The other big way to help is simply subscribing, reading, and passing this link along to a friend, parent, or coworker who could use some real talk.

Thank you for joining us on this road. Protect your peace today, keep moving forward, and welcome to Autismhood Media.
