Most people today view NFTs as speculative assets. This is reflected in the current landscape of NFT products. There are marketplaces, rarity tools, portfolio trackers, digital museums, and more. While these products helped popularize NFTs, it’s time to take the next step.

We believe NFTs have a bigger potential. We see them as an extension of your identity, every NFT you own tells a little bit about you — where you’ve been, what communities you’re a part of, and what you are interested in.

> Today, Avatar is redefining what it means to showcase and interact with your NFTs.
> ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Avatar is a social platform where people can discover and connect with one another through their NFTs. Our first step towards that is the **Avatar Profile**.

Current NFT profiles provide a limited view into a person. They focus solely on the JPEG, lack curation, customizability, and personality.

Avatar’s profile takes a different approach. It focuses on the person by allowing them to curate and customize their profile to express their personality through the NFTs they own. By taking this approach, our profile provides **meaningful insights about a person.**

This is done through two key features: **Prompts** and **Sections**.

### Prompts

Prompts give context to the NFTs being displayed. This is done by responding to a prompt such as:

*   _My favorite NFT…_

* _The NFT that made me the most money…_

*   _The NFT I wish I didn’t mint or buy…_

Through this framing, we can learn what people like, what big wins they’ve had, or the mistakes they’ve made.

### Sections

Focusing on the JPEG makes sense for NFTs that are visually oriented, but makes little sense for NFTs such as POAPs, credentials, and membership NFTs. For these NFTs, the JPEG is no longer the focus, but rather other aspects such as the date of a POAP, the achievement details of a credential, or the utility of a membership NFT.

This is why we’ve designed **Sections** to highlight different aspects of NFTs in a meaningful way. We’re starting with three layouts: Visual, Descriptive, and Timeline.

* _The_ **_Visual_** _layout highlights the JPEG of an NFT. This is meant for your PFPs and art NFTs._

* _The_ **_Descriptive_** _layout focuses on the text element of an NFT. This is meant for your credentials and membership NFTs._

* _The_ **_Timeline_** _layout is designed for time-based NFTs. This is meant for your POAPs and badges._

By offering different layouts for different NFTs, we’re acknowledging that NFTs have many use cases which require different ways to showcase them.
