**Emory Andrew Tate III** (born 1 December 1986) is an American-British [social media personality](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_media_personality), businessman, and former professional kickboxer. Tate began practising kickboxing in 2005 and won his first championship in 2009; he later became a four-time world champion. In 2016 he appeared on the British reality show [_Big Brother_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Brother_\(British_series_17\)) but was removed by [Channel 5](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_5_\(British_TV_channel\)) as he was the suspect in an open [rape investigation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_investigation) in the UK. After his kickboxing career, Tate and his brother, Tristan, began operating a [webcam model](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webcam_model) business, followed by selling online courses; notably _Hustler's University_, which gained 100,000 subscribers, later rebranded to _The Real World_, and the secretive _War Room_ group, which has been accused of [grooming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_trafficking#Grooming) women into [sex work](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_work) and teaching [violence against women](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violence_against_women).[\[3\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-War-Room-2023-3)

His controversial commentary has resulted in [de-platforming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deplatforming) from various social media platforms[\[4\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-4) and concern from advocacy groups, charities, non-profit organisations, teachers, parents, mental health experts, as well as UK [counter-terror police](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counter_Terrorism_Policing). Surveys have found that most Britons have heard of Tate, who is viewed favourably among many young men, considered influential, and has been dubbed the "king of [toxic masculinity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxic_masculinity)" by multiple media outlets,[\[5\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-King-5) as part of the "[manosphere](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manosphere)".[\[6\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-Manosphere-6) With appearances on [conspiracy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conspiracy) news site [_InfoWars_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InfoWars), Tate has been described as a [right-wing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing) and [far-right](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far-right) influencer, and has described himself as "absolutely" [misogynistic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misogynistic) and [sexist](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexist). In August 2023, it was estimated that Tate's online ventures generated US$5 million in revenue per month. As of December 2023, Tate had over 8.5 million followers on X (formerly [Twitter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter)) and was the third-most "[googled](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Googled)" person in 2023.

In December 2022, he and his brother Tristan were arrested in Romania along with two women, all four suspected of [human trafficking](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_trafficking) and forming an [organised crime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organized_crime) group. Romanian police alleged that the group coerced victims into creating paid [pornography](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography) in a criminal operation to financially benefit the four accused persons.[\[7\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-7) In March 2023, all four were moved to [house arrest](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_arrest) while the investigation continued, after being held in custody since their arrest.[\[8\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-Plumer-2023-8)[\[9\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-Reuters-2023-9) In June, they were charged with [rape](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape), human trafficking, and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women. Tate and his brother deny all charges.[\[10\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-Williamson_&_Wright-10) In July, two of the accusers reportedly went into hiding after a campaign of [online harassment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_harassment),[\[11\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-Winsor-2023-11) and the Tate brothers filed a [defamation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defamation) lawsuit claiming US$5 million in damages against one of the accusers.[\[12\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate#cite_note-AP_News-2023-12)
