Digital ownership is not new.

**_Sovereign_ digital ownership is new.**

This is an important distinction to draw. The crucial difference between digital ownership in web2 and digital ownership in web3 (the blockchain-enabled web) is sovereignty.

In web2, you can own digital assets. You can buy an in-game asset, an online ticket, a piece of digital art. Blockchain doesn’t power digital ownership. If you were to buy a concert ticket online and someone were to log into your computer and steal it, you would have legal recourse against them because **you _own_ that ticket**. Digital ownership exists in web2.

**Blockchain powers the _sovereign_ ownership of digital goods.** With sovereign ownership, _you and you alone_ have control over your digital assets. No third party can influence, control, or take them.

This is a huge unlock. Instead of relying on third parties to be the custodian of your digital assets, _you control them_. You hold them. You decide how they are used. **Sovereign digital ownership is true digital ownership.**
