sotheby's was caught copying crypto-art in 4k.

the legacy houses spent the last six years laughing at our JPGs, calling digital ownership a "fad for the unwashed internet degenerates." fast-forward to today, and they are desperately trying to wrap physical canvases in smart contracts while charging a standard 25% buyer's premium.

they saw the massive volume of sovereign collector communities on-chain and decided: "if you can't beat 'em, copy 'em, but make it look like an expensive corporate catalog."

very punk. very underground. anyway...

here is the difference they can’t seem to copy:

*   **the old guard:** uses blockchain as a marketing gimmick to authenticate an over-priced oil painting that sits in a secure, climate-controlled tax-free vault in geneva.
    
*   **da sovereign artists:** create native physical-digital collisions where the canvas and the token are permanently married in the wild. if the transaction is on-chain, the provenance is alive.
    

they are trying to buy the culture we spent years building out of cowboy-swagger, raw code, and sheer defiance. but you can't auction off sovereignty to the highest bidder in a mahogany room.

they want the clout, they want the tech, but they still want the gatekeeping.
