In December 2025, I was awarded the A3 Startup Award from Decentralized Pictures and the Arts3 Foundation. This is my impact report on what has accelerated and evolved for the business and for me as a creator since receiving the award from DCP. I’m publishing it publicly because this is an incredible chapter in the BizarreBeasts story, and because the whole process of building BizarreBeasts has always been in public. The early days, development, wins, and even the losses. The A3 Award is the most meaningful moment of my career as a creator. After years of building BizarreBeasts on the side while holding a senior business development role and supporting a family, the validation from DCP changed what I thought was possible for my creative ambitions. In February 2026, I left my corporate role to go all in. Since then, every hour has been dedicated to my BIZARRE mission of developing the BizarreBeasts streaming animated series exclusively for DCP+.On Tuesday, May 12th at 11:00 AM EST, the first piece of that mission will go live; we are dropping the first BizarreBeasts series teaser! The Creator & Technical SovereigntyMy name is Dylan Yarter. I’m the founder of BizarreBeasts, an artist-led creative ecosystem built on the Base blockchain. I hand-illustrate every character. I code every tool. I built the entire BizarreBeasts platform as a solo creator. For over two years, I've worked to bring the project fully onchain, backed by eight years of building the foundational art business behind my work. Through the process of bringing my artwork onchain and building with the available AI-assisted tooling, I have discovered the power of technical sovereignty. Owning the technology is the path to greater creative sovereignty. To maintain ownership and scale what I create, I became a self-taught developer, collaborating with AI as my co-pilot. I spent thousands of hours building the BizarreBeasts miniapp and community hub, the smart contracts, 12 original games, and a full suite of proprietary animation and production tools. I had no engineering team. My conviction that building onchain would solidify the project's future kept me going.2. What the Award Made PossibleFrom Side-Project to Studio Velocity: The A3 award transformed BizarreBeasts from a solo endeavor built in the margins of a corporate career into a high-output animation studio. The funding provided the essential infrastructure to move from conceptual art into active production. Since February 2026, every hour of my energy and focus has gone into creating BizarreBeasts animation. Building a Production Team: The award enabled me to bring my talented wife, Kate, onto the team as a production partner, sound engineer, director, and co-writer. Together, we have logged over 1,500 hours of production work since January. I have also expanded the crew to include Hashmi, an animation rigging specialist, who has been essential in building out character rigs while I focus on creative direction, artwork, and composing animations.3. The Impact of 1,500+ Production HoursWe keep a detailed production log of every hour invested in creating the series. This labor represents the foundation of the upcoming teaser and the series to follow:Creative Execution: Hundreds of hours dedicated to character rigging, environment builds, and high-resolution landmark assets for Bizarre City.Story and Sound: Extensive development of scripts, storyboards, original theme songs, and audio scoring.Technical Development: Focused engineering on proprietary systems, including the parallax engine, weather engines, creative asset work shops, and custom scene builders.Studio Operations: Developing the pipelines, workflows, and recording sessions necessary to scale a professional animated production.4. A Custom Production PipelineRather than relying solely on standard animation software, I built a custom BizarreBeats production pipeline from scratch. The proprietary BizarreBeasts animation studio works alongside industry-standard tools by improving how work and automation are handled. This includes over 60,000 lines of code and 39 custom tools, including:City Parallax Engine: A visual system with three scrolling layers of a cityscape, giving a sense of depth to Bizarre City.Building Library and Preview: A 19,000+ line tool for real-time preview of all environments in Bizarre City across multiple themes and color palettes.City Planner: A grid-style builder for the layout of 14 zone types and 8 districts.Scene Composer: A scene compositor with workflows for color, animations, and HD exports.5. BizarreBeasts Kids & Physical ExpansionThe BizarreBeasts brand is expanding as a multi-audience entertainment platform:BizarreBeasts Kids: A COPPA-compliant kids-focused platform (kids.bizarrebeasts.io) with no data collection, ads, or accounts. The platform features Learning Lab content led by BizarreBeasts characters like Jasper and Cornelia, original games, daily activities, downloadable coloring pages, and sticker studio.The Move to Bentonville: In June 2026, we are relocating our family and the business to Bentonville, Arkansas. This move strategically positions BizarreBeasts for growth in a thriving creative community, opening up gallery exhibitions, real-world brand presence, and partnership opportunities.6. Impact on the Community & EcosystemBizarreBeasts has an engaged social community, active game players, and dedicated token holders. The A3 award provided by DCP and the opportunity to publish exclusive content on DCP+ are an affirmation of what the BIZARRE community has been part of since the project's inception. It is proof of what a community-powered, artist-led on-chain project can become. BizarreBeasts is a proof of concept for a model that matters beyond the success of a single project. The dominant narrative today is that you need a team, funding, and a marketing budget to build something meaningful and lasting. BizarreBeasts demonstrates that there is a different path. One artist, self-taught as an AI-assisted developer, built a complete ecosystem combining artwork and onchain technology. Now, DCP has accelerated that evolution.7. What This ProvesDCP and Arts3 exist to support independent creators and prove that a better model of funding, support, and go-to-market for entertainment is possible, powered by the blockchain. BizarreBeasts is that model in action. In the months since the award was announced, the results speak clearly: a creator who left a successful corporate career to be a full-time onchain entrepreneur, an animated series in active production, a custom studio pipeline of over 40 tools built from scratch, a kids content platform launching, a business relocating to establish a physical community of BIZARRE fans, and 1,500+ hours of documented production work. All driven by one resourceful artist and a lean team, with zero waste and total creative focus. Creators who see what BizarreBeasts has built with support from DCP will discover a systematic path to engage with, adapt, and follow. I share the belief that drives DCP and Arts3: that independent creators deserve a voice, and that the best work comes from artists who are given the freedom and support to build without compromise.
