Big Lid tilted carefully on the edge of the stove, trying (and failing) to stretch. **“I’m getting a bit big, Little Grater. Sitting around isn’t cutting it anymore.”**

Little Grater spun on his edge, wobbling unsteadily. **“I’m sharp, but my balance is rubbish. We need to do something about this.”**

Just then, a flyer fluttered down from the counter:

**“Kitchen Bootcamp – Led by Major Faff and Corporal Cluck”**

**“Bootcamp?”** Little Grater said, grinning. **“That’s exactly what we need!”**

* * *

When they arrived, they were greeted by **Major Faff**, an overly dramatic whisk whose loops jingled as he marched back and forth. **“Recruits! You’ve come to the right place! By the time I’m done, you’ll be fitter, faster, and… well, something close to organised!”**

Beside him stood **Corporal Cluck**, a cheerful but slightly dopy egg timer. His ticking was slightly offbeat, and his round face was stuck in a permanent smile.

**“Right, recruits!”** Cluck said enthusiastically. **“We’ll whip you into shape in no time… probably!”**

Big Lid and Little Grater exchanged a glance. This was going to be interesting.

* * *

The first drill was **“Dodge the Spills.”** Major Faff spun wildly, splattering soy sauce and miso across the counter.

**“Quick thinking, recruits! Dodge, pivot, recover!”** he barked.

Little Grater slipped on a puddle of soy sauce, while Big Lid’s wide base struggled to move quickly enough.

Corporal Cluck waddled over with his usual cheerful clucks. “Loosen up, mate!” he chirped to Big Lid, tipping playfully. “Fast and flexible—that’s the way to go!”

The second drill, **“Countertop Crawls,”** involved sliding across damp dishcloths.

Big Lid moved at a snail’s pace, grumbling about his weight. Little Grater tried to glide but kept getting tangled. Meanwhile, Corporal Cluck bumbled along, shouting, **“Look, I’m winning! Wait… where’s the finish line?”**

* * *

Exhausted and frustrated, Big Lid and Little Grater flopped onto the counter.

**“This is pointless,”** Big Lid muttered. **“We’re never going to keep up with the chopsticks or Cluck’s daft energy.”**

Major Faff overheard and approached, his loops jingling. **“Recruits, bootcamp isn’t about keeping up with anyone else. It’s about improving what _you_ can do.”**

Corporal Cluck chimed in, grinning. **“Yeah, like me! I’m terrible at timing anything, but I still show up. That what counts, right?”**

Big Lid and Little Grater exchanged a glance.

**“Alright,”** Little Grater said, standing up. **“Let’s give it one more go.”**

* * *

Back at the drills, Big Lid used his size to his advantage, shielding other recruits from flying soy sauce during **“Dodge the Spills.”**

Little Grater discovered he could use his sharp edge to cut through the tangled dishcloths during **“Countertop Crawls.”**

Corporal Cluck cheered them on enthusiastically, even when he stumbled himself. **“See? You’re smashing it! Or… slicing it?”**

By the end of the day, the duo felt stronger, more confident, and surprisingly fond of the chaotic bootcamp.

As the sun set, Major Faff gave them a satisfied nod. **“Not bad, recruits. Tomorrow, we’ll push even harder!”**

Corporal Cluck added, clucking happily, **“Don’t worry. I’ll bring snacks! Or… was it the timer?”**

Big Lid chuckled. **“You’re a dopy lot, but this isn’t so bad after all.”**

Little Grater grinned. **“See you tomorrow!”**
