Bread Co-op members Sara Bajor and Ron Turetzky are hosting Touch Grass, a four-day retreat at Elkenmist Farm, a 120-acre property in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. The idea is simple: gather people who care about regenerative community, live together, and explore what it actually takes to build spaces that last.What you'll exploreCommunal Living: Past and Present How have people organized collective living throughout history, and what can we learn from them? We'll examine what's worked, what hasn't, and why. Where Can We Actually Do This? A practical look at jurisdictions, land considerations, and what it takes to make intentional communities viable. Less theory, more actionable insight. Bridging Tech and Reality Most of the work in building community spaces isn't technological, it's human and cultural. We'll unpack our assumptions about collectivism, community-building, and how groups actually function.Hands-on learningSite Walks Guided walks to understand natural systems: water, building materials, land features, and how the farm operates as a living system. Food Sovereignty Workshops Gardening, animal processing, mushroom inoculation. Get your hands in the soil and learn where food actually comes from.
