# Software engineering is complex, especially in crypto

Vitalik predicted in 2015 that PoS could be implemented in 6 to 12 months. More than 6 years later, it is still in progress. The reason was that the original design was too complex. Vitalik underestimated the time from PoC to production. Now the Ethereum team have learned the lesson and are looking for some simple solutions. I doubt it will be at least another 5 years to have a mature solution.
