The James Webb Space Telescope was launched on 25 December 2021 on an [Ariane 5](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariane_5) rocket from [Kourou](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kourou), [French Guiana](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Guiana), and arrived at the Sun–Earth [L2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L2_point) [Lagrange point](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagrange_point) in January 2022. [The first image from JWST](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webb%27s_First_Deep_Field) was released to the public via a press conference on 11 July 2022. The telescope is the successor of the Hubble as [NASA's flagship mission](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_strategic_science_missions) in [astrophysics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrophysics).
