So much talk about too many tools. But getting started? Doesn’t have to be that deep. Here’s how I’d approach it from both angles.For everyday use: Start simpleThe easiest way to dip your toes in? Just start chatting with ChatGPT. Literally. Ask it to:Summarize a meeting noteDraft a polite follow-up emailHelp you brainstorm gift ideas for a mate’s birthdayPlan a healthy grocery listBreak down a complicated topic in plain EnglishYou’re not trying to “hack the matrix.” You’re just building the muscle. The more you ask it to help with your day-to-day life, The better you’ll understand what AI can do and what it shouldn’t. And once you see the light, you’ll never unsee it. It’s like adding a second brain to your workflow.For businesses: Start with the slow stuffNow let’s shift to the business side. If you run a team or are part of one and you’re curious about where AI fits in, here’s the best starting point: Look for anything that’s slow, manual, or annoying.Are you manually sending reports every week?Copy-pasting data between systems?Spending 2 hours reviewing emails that could be summarised in 2 minutes? That’s where AI and automation thrive. You don’t need to hire a dev team. You just need to start with tools like: ✅ N8N – a powerful visual automation builder that lets you connect tools, APIs, and even AI models ✅ Gumloop – perfect for creating mini-AI workflows or agents that do things like research, summarize info, or auto-respond based on rules ✅ Make (Integromat) – solid for drag-and-drop automation between 1,000+ apps Start by asking:What’s a task we do over and over that never changes?Then plug that into a basic flow. That’s your wedge.The honest truthYou don’t need to understand everything about AI to get started. You just need to start and build the understanding as you go.
