Farcaster is a decentralized social platform (DeSoc) infrastructure with a hybrid structure of on-chain and off-chain components. User identity activities (such as Id Registry, Store Registry, and Key Registry) are recorded on-chain using Optimism, while users can also utilize ENS on the Ethereum network for identification. Social interactions like posts, updates, and profile changes are stored off-chain through Hubs, a peer-to-peer network that ensures scalability. Farcaster's structure includes over 30 projects, categorized into infrastructure (middleware) and applications. In Web3 social platforms, there are four main components: applications (many-to-many, one-to-one interactions), profiles (connecting users to apps, mainly via wallets), social primitives (middleware handling social graphs, communication, and identity), and hosting (storage and blockchain infrastructure). Warpcast is the leading app in Farcaster’s ecosystem, combining features of Twitter and Reddit. The platform’s hybrid storage system helps balance decentralization, cost-efficiency, and scalability by storing user data both on-chain and off-chain.
