We Concept Art House couldn't help being proud of SkateX after we heard the news. Let’s chat with Curtis Chiu, Executive Producer about SkateX's growth, the process of making the game and where SkateX is headed. For the majority of us, our first video game memories are centered around a specific console or PC title. For Chiu, however, his video game journey began at a pool hall. Chiu racked up an impressive resume full of video game bona fides at companies like Konami, Sega and Kabam before joining Block Tackle. Chiu called the shots while working On SkateX, so he was very busy putting the game together, but he was able to take a few minutes to answer a few questions for On Deck. About his pool hall days, his passion for Sega, and why SkateX wasn't a simulator. Read Curtis Chiu's detailed interview with SkateX below. Q: What specific aspect of SkateX are you working on right now? A: Right now I’m reviewing art styles to see what kind of look and feel we want. Some options are more heavy lined and noir-ish to give a more dramatic effect. Other options are lighter art styles. Whichever way we choose, we want it to enhance the story and help people feel like they can express themselves. I’m also looking at potential storylines for the game. It’s crucial for people to feel super immersed in the game and get more enjoyment out of it. The story line will also keep people excited for future content, feature and game mode drops. Q: From the early NFT drops of things like skateboards with rockets, it’s obvious that SkateX will have an exaggerated feel to it. How “realistic” do you want SkateX to be? A: There are plenty of other skateboard games out there that provide simulation or a totally realistic feel. We want to bring something different to the audience. Something that has more entertainment value than just skating. Creating more of an exaggerated environment also allows us to scale in different ways than just adding new parks and cities. We can do more content, different modes and create a more open ended experience for the players. Q: Part of the fun of skateboarding in real life is the freedom that comes with it and hanging out with your friends. How will players connect and hang out in the world of SkateX? A: SkateX will have a central hub where everybody can congregate and interact in lots of ways with their friends. We’ll also be adding stuff like emojis and mini games where people can cooperate with others. We really want to make sure there are a lot of ways people can positively interact with one another. Q: What other activities will SkateX do next? A: A lot of people in the community have been asking about this and yes – Staking is coming. That’s all I can say right now.
