# The ReFi Recap: Envisioning an ecological offset app for crypto conference travel

Here's an idea: an ecological "offset" app that provides a variety of options and is fun to use. (Note: we don't think "offset" is the right word, but we'll use it anyway for simplicity.) Why? It seems to us that a logical source of financing for the ReFi space is the hordes of people traversing the world for crypto conferences like TOKEN2049. Why not make it easy for them to contribute to regenerative ecological impact? How would it work? The standard model we currently see is buying carbon offsets as part of the airline ticket purchasing process. Estimates suggest less than 5% of people actually do it, though, despite indications that they would like to. There are now enough impactful ReFi projects out there that conference goers would have a broad set of choices. They could plant trees, fund grant programs, build solar infrastructure, contribute to UBI programs, protect biodiversity, and so on. They could also, if they so wish, see the direct impact of their contribution. To take it a step further, we envision a reality where organisers make it mandatory to provide proof of offset in order to buy a conference ticket. A green tax, so to speak. We could even see it employed for COP iterations and other climate-related events. The other thing we like about the idea is that it offers a logical bridge for everyone outside ReFi. It doesn't require any crypto sorcery and it's an easy narrative. It's really the consumer app we think ReFi needs.
