中国作家主要指中国现、当代作家。现代作家以鲁迅、朱自清、钱锺书等为代表。中国当代作家流派众多，主要分为传统文学作家、新时期作家、中国先锋文学作家、中国自由作家和中国通俗流行文学作家等五大类。当代作家以莫言、王蒙等为代表。 [1] 20世纪末期开始，具有独立思想的中国自由作家的出现，使得中国作家大踏步进入世界优秀作家群，成为引领世界文学的先锋，并使中国文学在当代达到鼎盛繁荣的历史高峰
