Write me a poem about being together... One wonders when to rhyme it with weatherOr whether to sayWeathering the storms altogether And yet like relationshipsThe best lines of a poemAre not made to be a perfect fit In poetry & life we must aimFor a richer deeper veinTo try to ascertainThe hidden rhythm and rhymeThat connects our lives Ladies & gentlemanWe are gathered here today to seeA brave and near foolhardy thingTwo people’s lives have intersected suchThat they are willing To seek to complete The imperfect circle From time to timeThey may see eye to eyeOn this or that Yet to uncover the meaning of todayThey here agreeTo agree to disagreeIn the long intervals in-between I have heard said, and read,That love is like two treesIntermingling to become oneThat type of poem may doFor the feeble and the young It appears to me that loveIs much stronger than thatFor what tree ever argued with itself? A better image to imagine would beTwo trees in an orchard contentedlySeparate in space and in timeAnd knowing they can never beAs one Leaves fall and summers breezeThe rain & windShakes the boughs& the trees stay rooted & strongGazing at each other through the yearsUntil at last one winter too many falls One might say‘How sad to be those treesCondemned to be alone’But we should say happy trees!You shared so much togetherAnd knew each other betterThan you knew yourselves It is the space between usThat defines us & our love for each otherThe space we allow each otherTo breathe & grow So if you will spend your livesTrying to be togetherRememberThe measure is not how close you areBut how you live withThe distance between youMay you spend your livesExploring and guardingThe space around you Who knowsWhat may growIn the groundBetween?
