# ERC **Published by:** [The Creator Driven Community](https://paragraph.com/@creatordriven/) **Published on:** 2022-06-05 **Categories:** web3-eli5 **URL:** https://paragraph.com/@creatordriven/eli5-erc ## Content **ERC** is an acronym for **E**thereum **R**equest for **C**omment. You’ll see this noted before a number for each type of token. Every **ERC** standard starts out as an **E**thereum **I**mprovement **P**roposal (**EIP**). Much like a law in the government, before any EIP can be adopted and put into place, it has to be discussed and amended until it is the “rough consensus” of the community that this standard will be helpful to the protocol. If an EIP is adopted and it deals with the “application level”, like a token standard, a wallet format or a name registry, it becomes an ERC. The number after the ERC is just the order in which its original EIP was introduced. A larger number means that the standard was adopted more recently. ## Publication Information - [The Creator Driven Community](https://paragraph.com/@creatordriven/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@creatordriven/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@creatordriven): Subscribe to updates - [Twitter](https://twitter.com/MarkBuildsIt): Follow on Twitter ## Optional - [Collect as NFT](https://paragraph.com/@creatordriven/eli5-erc): Support the author by collecting this post - [View Collectors](https://paragraph.com/@creatordriven/eli5-erc/collectors): See who has collected this post
