Cardano is a decentralized public blockchain and cryptocurrency project that is focused on providing a more secure and scalable platform for the execution of smart contracts. It was created by blockchain development firm Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) and is led by Charles Hoskinson, co-founder of Ethereum. Cardano uses a proof-of-stake consensus algorithm called Ouroboros to secure its network and enable users to reach consensus on the state of the blockchain. The platform also utilizes a multi-layered architecture, with a settlement layer for recording transactions and a control layer for executing smart contracts. Cardano's native cryptocurrency is called ADA.
