Kala Crenshaw lives in the docks of Drowntown, where the waters have long since risen above the city of Vancouver. Only the top floors of the towers remain above the tides. Pushed to the margins of her world Kala and her crew of divers descend to the depths of the sunken city to salvage what was left behind. In a world born from the traditions of Asian syndicates, Pacific Islander warriors and indigenous tribes that survived the flood, Kala, an orphan of mixed ancestry finds a way to survive in the new Republic rising from the waters. Her world becomes infinitely larger and complex after she takes a convert contract and the secret she finds below pulls her into the highest echelons of political intrigue and power.
