8 月 5 日，美联储梅斯特表示，一旦通胀率回落至接近 2% 的目标，美联储就会降息，「我们认为利率应该略高于 4%。利率应该会在今年和明年上半年继续上升，然后我们也许可以停下来，开始降息」。
