Streaming services and home audio manufacturers dematerialized music to the extent that it’s now invisible and intangible. Hardware such as players, speakers and amplifiers are rationalized away in favor of a minimalistic setup. A common music listener streams their music through smartphones directly to amplified speakers via bluetooth or wifi and don’t have a dedicated music player. Although it is a slick way to experience music it has some challenges. A device such a iPhone or android smartphone are designed for multiple purposes and will always diverse its usage between social media, utility apps, photography, navigation and a million different things. It is inevitably that it by its core design will be inferior to a hardware special design to a single purpose. And although we are not nostalgic about how music was consumed in the era of vinyls, CDs we still think the current state of invisible, intangible and almost completely immaterial music consumption isn’t the end game. We think music will re-materialize and evolve fast and substantially the coming few years.

We want to explore how music will be consumed in the future.

DECOY is a project that is converging music, art, design, video, electronics, animation, gamification and use NFT market dynamics to release the potential to make music fun again.
