**Introduction**
----------------

Base (Twitter: [https://twitter.com/BuildOnBase](https://twitter.com/BuildOnBase)) is a Layer 2 built by Coinbase. They are now officially open to everyone with fully functioning bridges.

It is clearly stated in Base’s Twitter that they have no plans to issue a new network token. That doesn’t mean they won’t ever launch a token, but I would regard the airdrop chances as relatively low.

That said, Base is still an interesting project to watch. Many have speculated that it will be the next Binance Smart Chain with Coinbase leveraging its existing user base.
