GoalThe main goal of this post is to list some of the -404 based projects that exist and provide some basic info and resources on what -404 projects are. What are Dual Nature Token Pairs (-404 Projects)?Dual Nature Token Pairs are projects typically ending in -404. They use an experimental token standard that combines ERC-20 (fungible tokens) and ERC-721 (non-fungible tokens), allowing tokens under this standard to be both fungible and non-fungible at the same time. This works by bonding an ERC-721 token to an ERC-20 token, where an ERC-20 token only represents an NFT when it is a whole token. Once it is broken down into fractions for trading as an ERC-20 token, the NFT is burnt. When two complementary fractions (e.g. 0.4 and 0.6) are combined to form a full token, a new NFT is minted. Typically, there are a set number of NFTs with associated metadata, and the NFTs that are burned and minted from the above actions are cycled in and out of this pool. So in effect, you are not minting a "new" NFT, you are drawing an existing one from a pool. To date there have been a variety of unofficial standards developed, however there is an official ERC submission, aimed to standardize this pairing, which states the following: "A fungible ERC-20 token contract and non-fungible ERC-721 token contract can be interlinked, allowing actions performed on one contract to be reflected on the other. This proposal defines how the relationship between the two token contracts can be queried.
