Is this a good or bad thing?Did you hear the latest? In-N-Out Burger, a name synonymous with Californian fast-food culture for 75 years, is shutting down its Oakland location. That’s right, for the first time in its storied history, the burger giant is closing a store. Not because of poor sales or lackluster burgers, but crime. Yes, remarkably true. Crime is forcing a thriving, profitable joint to lock its doors. This is in Cali, one of the richest, more affluent and advanced cities in America. Ok but to those who know, Oakland isn’t the safest joint in town.If you never ate a double-double from In-N-Out before, you are missing out. It’s not just any In-N-Out we’re talking about. This one sits near Oakland International Airport, a prime spot for hungry travelers and locals alike. Despite its success, the increasing frequency and severity of crimes like car break-ins, thefts, and armed robberies have left In-N-Out with no choice but to prioritize the safety of its customers and staff. The company’s COO, Denny Warnick, emphasized this, stating that they cannot ask their people to work in an unsafe environment. And who can blame them? Nobody wants to go work at a burger joint to be shot or stabbed. Here’s the deal: Oakland’s crime surge isn’t news.SF is like a warzone/crime scene these days. Wouldn’t you agree? The city has seen a spike in property crimes and robberies across the board. This In-N-Out location, in particular, has been a hotbed for criminal activities, with over 1,300 incidents reported since 2019. Imagine, even diners and employees have faced armed robberies. It’s a no-brainer why In-N-Out is shutting it down. They don’t want to deal with that drama. When a business that’s part of the American cultural fabric throws in the towel, it’s a wake-up call.Hard to believe it but crime really took out a well-established franchise restaurant operating peacefully for years.Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao’s response? More police officers in the area. But is it too little too late? The damage, it seems, is already done. One less tasty burger joint in the area. In case you think that the In-N-Out’s predicament is an isolated incident. We’ve seen Starbucks, Target, and other major stores closing doors in various cities citing similar concerns. The mayor has a tall order but will he be able to fix anything meaningfully? It’s a trend that’s picking up pace, underscoring the urgent need for effective crime prevention strategies. Robbers stealing iPhones straight from Apple stores, blatantly robbing shops at the mall and looting cars in broad daylight. Some of the videos are really alarming. There seems to be no repercussion whatsoever and the state of crime is just getting out of control. It’s like Gotham city in parts of Cali, especially San Fran city.In-N-Out! Please set up shop in Singapore! If a burger joint can’t operate safely, what does that say about the state of the neighborhoods and cities? So In-N-Out, please come over to Singapore. People here are friendly, rich and we love burgers. =) - Do you like In-N-Out? - #InNOutClosure #OaklandCrime #SafetyFirst #CommunityChallenges #BusinessDecisions #CrimeImpact #SocietalReflection #UrbanSafety #NeighborhoodConcerns #CorporateResponsibility ## Publication Information - [Durwin](https://paragraph.com/@durwin/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@durwin/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@durwin): Subscribe to updates - [Twitter](https://twitter.com/DurwinHo): Follow on Twitter
