Or around 684 ETH ($1.09M) worth of NFTs. Not a joke. He lost a huge bunch of his NFTs when he accidentally signed a malicious signature “that allowed the exploiter to transfer over a large number of tokens”. It was a relatively simple but brutal phishing attempt, that worked. Seriously, who reads every line and decode everything on a transaction hash and signature before signing it? Apparently, not even Kevin Rose does. He is human after all, like all of us. It shocked everyone.Nightbirds is a variant of Moonbirds which is oddly fascinating to look at.That a seasoned pro like Kevin can be a victim to such bold and brazen attacks. He is the holy creator of Moonbirds, a very successful NFT collection that took the NFT world by storm. Quoting from Coingecko: Moonbirds (MOONBIRD) is an NFT collection. Moonbirds (MOONBIRD) price floor today is $11,535.92, with a 24 hour sales volume of 56.95 ETH. As of today, there is a total of 10000 NFTs minted, held by 6570 unique owners. It has a total market cap of $115,359,218.18. Translation: the total amount Moonbirds worth in the entire market is clocked at $115M. That is sick. Considering it is less than a year old, the market is now in bear mode and these are literally digital jpegs floating in cyberspace. When Moonbirds launched in Apr last year, it was hyper than a BTS or Blackpink concert.Moonbirds’ mind-boggling success to the top of the NFT world is quite remarkable, generating hundreds of millions for the community. With all the people buying and selling Moonbirds, it generated $280M worth of sales in just 2 days. Well, so what did the attackers stole? “The scammer made off with 40 NFTs, including one Autoglyph; 25 Chromie Squiggles; one QQL Mint Pass; one Admit One pass from gmoney; one Cool Cat NFT; one The Currency NFT by Damian Hirst; one Quantum Key; and several OnChainMonkeys.” Some of those NFTs are worth thousands and some of those are potentially worth millions due to their rarity and history. Ouch. I don’t care what wealth bracket you reside in or how many Bitcoins you own. If this happens to you. It stings. It burns. It will leave you sleepless for nights and keep the bogeyman away!Perhaps he should have moved them to a selling wallet upon selling them, to prevent all this. Or never put all his NFTs into a hot wallet in the first place. If a crypto god like Kevin can get exploited. What hope do we mere mortals have? Can we please have a more secure way to keep our wallets safe and warm in bed when we sleep at night? Now I understand why the older folks loved keeping their cold, hard cash under their mattresses and beds. It is a false sense of security, sure. It suffers from the unholy magic of inflation, sure. It may get chewed and eaten by rats and bugs, sure. But at least I am guaranteed that no stranger, thief or hacker would reach and steal them cash from me! We really, really need a safer, smarter, better way to store our crypto and NFTs if we want web3 to proliferate and grow further. - Do you have a crypto wallet? - #startups #business #startupx #growth #success #socialmedia #culture #entrepreneurship #strategy #eth #btc #crypto #moonbirds #partnerships #bearmarket #NFT #chromie #phished #millions #scam #stolen #hack ## Publication Information - [Durwin](https://paragraph.com/@durwin/): Publication homepage - [All Posts](https://paragraph.com/@durwin/): More posts from this publication - [RSS Feed](https://api.paragraph.com/blogs/rss/@durwin): Subscribe to updates - [Twitter](https://twitter.com/DurwinHo): Follow on Twitter
