One thing I learned today:

Currently validators need to stake 32 ETH on the Ethereum network to attest and validate transactions on the network. However, the current process for a validator to stop operations or stop validating transactions is quite difficult. EIP-7002 aims to make that process easier.

Validator Set-up:

Validators use two-keys:

Active Key (Hot): Actively signs blocks and veriffies transactions

Withdrawal Credential (Cold): This key controls the staked funds and rewards.

Currently only the Active Key can initiate an exit to staking yet the Withdrawal Key is what ultimately holds all the ETH of the validator.

If the owner of the withdrawal key wants to exit then they have to do so with the consent of the active key holder. This could result in trust issues or inefficient workarounds to pre-signed exits.

Also, if the active key holder loses his keys then those the withdrawal key may not be able to recover their funds that are staked.

This EIP proposal will create a safer environment for validators and ultimately make the exit process for validators more fluid and less dependent on active key wallet management.
