Technical analysis is a method of evaluating securities by analyzing statistics generated by market activity, such as past prices and volume. Technical analysts use charts and other tools to identify patterns that can indicate buying or selling opportunities. There are many different techniques that fall under the umbrella of technical analysis, including trend analysis, support and resistance levels, and moving averages. Technical analysts may also use indicators, such as oscillators or moving averages, to help interpret data and make predictions about future activity. Technical analysis is based on the idea that market trends, as shown by charts and other technical indicators, can predict the future direction of a security. It is often used in conjunction with fundamental analysis, which looks at a company's financial and economic fundamentals to determine its value.
