# Naming a child

We have just decided on a new name for my soon to be adopted daughter (daughter of my wife) here in Vietnam, but a solid British name was on the must have list, as well as something strong. So, I powered up the search engines and went looking for English girls names , added a few extras like strong and goddess. After scanning many many list, we have done this before, a few times, of course, but it looks like we finally have a good solid set of names that are practical, not subject to unpleasant nicknames or bad abbreviations, and as a bonus, in Vietnamese they can also build some humorous meanings too (well a lot of laughs were had by wife and daughter ) but nothing to change the game play. So my daughter will have a good solid English name as well as keeping her daily short name we use at home - and that lead me to wonder what visitors would be thinking when we start talking to or about this stat he named one instead of our daughter, made me smile thinking about them looking around for a cat or dog around before we explain that home names are also a thing for the Vietnamese.
