Let's talk about the thing you make without a deadline, client, or a guaranteed audience. The thing that feels almost too small to justify your time.

Let's talk about personal projects; that work matters more than we tend to admit.

Personal work is where momentum begins: When you remove the pressure to impress, optimize, or monetize, you move faster. You experiment. You finish things. Even small progress compounds, and before you realize it, you’ve made a real leap-- because you're practicing commitment.

What’s important to you is rarely only important to you. If something keeps resurfacing in your mind, and won't leave you alone, listen up. That internal demand usually carries something that reaches beyond your own experience.

Personal work isn’t self-indulgent; it’s often the most honest signal. Being specific and allowing yourself to go full-on niche, that's the point. Audiences may connect with broad-stroke work made for everyone. But a gut-punch story only you can tell is what makes them feel something.

When you make something that comes from you first it tends to be clearer. Stronger. Less diluted. The work carries intent without compromise. People want that. They might not know why it works, but they know when it does.

Working personal also lowers the barrier to action. You don’t need permission to begin. You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need to start and keep going. Over time, those small decisions add up to skill, confidence, and a body of work that actually reflects who you are—not who you were trying to be for someone else.

So, get going. Get to work on the small thing. Flesh out that half-formed idea. Begin the side project no one is waiting for. Make it honest. Make it yours.
