# Moving to DAO

Fructo is about making your life easier. I am sure there are hundreds if not thousands of organisations that want to achieve our same goal. But we want to achieve it differently.

Turning Fructo into a DAO
-------------------------

[DAO](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decentralized_autonomous_organization) (decentralised autonomous organisation) is an organisation that does not have a central government. This means that decisions are made by voting. You might be thinking, who orchestrates the organisation then? Simple: code. A smart contract deployed on the blockchain makes sure that everything is working the way it is supposed to.

This will allow us to make Fructo and Fructo’s products the best they can be. Fructo is now entirely open source so anyone can contribute.

So how are we doing it?

This change will be gradual as converting from a centralised model to a decentralised one is pretty hard. Here are the steps we are making:

*   Creating a smart contract to handle tokens
    
*   Voting on [Snapshot](https://snapshot.org)
    

Tokens will be our replacement for shares. The way we want to implement them is still unclear. There is still a lot of work to be done. But those tokens is what we are going to use to vote.
