I did about 50% of the actual work from the IT department on this particular project, and only some topics. Which is to say, other people deserve a lot of credit for their part in this too.

No one ever called me to say, hey man, everything’s working great today, I just want to thank you for what you do everyday. I heard that from my non-bosses once or twice in my career. We are privy to some heavy shit, like being responsible for turning off accounts after a layoff. We deserve compassion. For us, that’s the same event as letting a personal relationship go. You’ve been on the phone with this person 5-10 times. You know about their lives. But they found a better paying job, and the smart ones do not stay at Government forever. You can always count on greed. IT people deserve some fucking glory for what we achieve on a global basis so you all can scroll endlessly.

Here’s some perspective for you. The “internet” used to just be a couple computers that knew how to connect to each other so they could sell each other weed and play games, I shit you not, web2 was an un-indexed circus before Google. This happened before you were born, and evolved enough so that when you were born, if you were lucky, you know what a modem sounds like when connecting to the internet. And why the fucking save icon is a floppy disk.

Can’t make this shit up, we used to fit 0.75 of ONE “song” on a disk and pirate shit for hours. You too, can do hard things when properly motivated by porn.

Broadband comes along, enables HD(720p) viewing of porn, and changes everything. I can now get porn even faster. While this is all going on, Google is literally siphoning your data to establish ways they can steal from you legally. You load up Wow and join that Naxx raid, this dumb motherfucker runs in and yells Leroy Jennings, or something. And then you get a ‘pop’ from Apple mail saying your iTunes purchase is available for download.

You have now been propelled through 60 years of innovation in a few sentences. We can literally send fucking messages to each other with encoded numbers, is this not blowing your mind by meow? A fiber network sends messages by attenuating motherfucking light, which a GBIC “interprets” back into binary, processes super fast and runs on another ASIC to hit the 10GB backbone of your shitty home network switch. Networks can and should be socialized(ipv6). Municipal networks are already being used for commercial shit and vice versa, do that, but Federally. Absorb these giants’ many paths to the consumer hivemind of terrible fucking decisions with money that they use against us to make even more mounds of money. Make money more liquid. Escrow shit for people so they can trust the entire system. Enable “refunds(nonprejudicial charge backs)” (that require oversight, which is never perfect, but you’re welcome to annoy the shit out of someone and have it cost you everything, if you’d like) for everyone for securities sake.

Take all those people being perpetually marginalized by commercial entities in tech-ish verticals and let them be marginalized by the government for awhile instead. But still, fix your shit.

Have at least 3 tiers of technologists per business unit of service per state, county, city, area code, major cross streets. If this is 2 people needed for each tier, hire 6 really fucking smart people who want to learn more about things and are motivated by money. Tier 1 is basic support, the same thing the Applebros do for you in-store. Tier 2 is for grumpy old motherfuckers who truly put a pull request in COBOL last spring, so he’s like only the 5th person to do that in the last decade. Or people who want to fight and follow people like me to stop even more motherfuckery. Tier 3 is for people who are good, but not like that good. Anything above that should make the same money as a middle manager, at least, to do what what they do. Architecture is for us Super nerds. Run shifts in follow the sun format. Write shit down. Show that shit to other people. Find out what ITIL is, do that, but with regulations. Make them show it to other people, a simple ponzi scheme. Until all us motherfuckers are as good as all the other motherfuckers, because we are behind and it’s because money.
